Women have surpassed men in becoming CEOs of listed companies

The Rise and Stagnation of Women CEOs in Listed Companies: A Case Study on Juha, Mikkos, and Beyond

In 2015, there were more CEOs of listed companies named Juha than women. However, recent calculations show that in Helsinki, there are now more women CEOs than Juha CEOs. Responsibility consultant Kaisa Hernberg found that there are ten women as managing directors of listed companies, compared to only five Juhas. Additionally, there are five Mikkos as managing directors and three each of Artoja, Esoja, Mikoja, Petrja, Pekoja, and Timoja.

Despite surpassing Juhas in numbers, Hernberg believes that achieving greater gender diversity among CEOs is still necessary. The Central Chamber of Commerce’s annual review of female managers shows a decrease in the number of female CEOs in listed companies since last year. The Union of Women’s Affairs had previously calculated that at the time more listed companies were led by men named Juha rather than women.

Data collected by the Chamber of Commerce indicates that the number of female CEOs rose from one to around ten in the mid-2010s but has remained stable for the past few years.
