Reno High Baseball Alums Take the Diamond in Junior College World Series

Reno High baseball alums Mikey Cruz and Garrison Geis will be competing in the Junior College World Series, set to begin on Saturday in Grand Junction, Colorado. Both Cruz and Geis are sophomore starters for the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in Las Vegas.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds, Cruz has been hitting .324 this season with 18 extra-base hits, including two home runs. In 61 games, he has accumulated 55 RBIs and scored 39 runs. Geis, who is 6-foot tall and weighs 200 pounds, has a batting average of .349 with 14 extra-base hits, including two home runs. In 44 games, he has scored 41 runs and driven in 36.

Geis had an impressive performance in a recent game against South Mountain Community College (SMCC), going 3-for-5 with two runs scored to help secure a spot in the JuCe World Series. Cruz was also instrumental in that game, scoring two RBIs on one hit while helping CSN win the game.

Cruz was named first-team all-region at first base this season, while Geis was a second-team all-region honoree. Both players were coached by Pete Savage at Reno High School and were key players in the school’s successful season where they went undefeated during the regular season and regional playoffs before finishing as state runners up. The team also qualified for the NCAA Division II tournament where they finished fourth overall after being knocked out by Saint Edward’s University (SEU) during the semifinals round of brackets. This year’s success marks their third consecutive trip to postseason competition.

CSN has had an outstanding season with a record of 51 wins against only ten losses overall and a conference record of 26 wins against just three losses
