José Muñoz Believes Auto Shows Benefit Business

Hyundai Motor Company’s Commitment to Consumer Choice: Addressing Concerns about Online Sales and the Future of Dealerships

At the Automotive Forum New York, Hyundai Motor Company President José Muñoz addressed concerns about the brand’s retail strategy. With Hyundai’s recent partnership with Amazon to sell vehicles through their online platform, there were worries among franchise system advocates about the future of dealerships. However, Muñoz reassured that dealers are still responsible for selling the vehicles and participation in the Amazon platform is optional. Currently, a pilot program with 20 dealers is active, with plans for expansion later in the year.

Muñoz acknowledged the challenges of selling cars online and emphasized the importance of consumers being able to interact with them in person. While cars are unique products compared to other items on Amazon, having a strong presence at auto shows allows Hyundai to showcase a wide range of vehicles and offer consumer choice. Although electric vehicles (EVs) have become increasingly important, Muñoz highlighted that Hyundai will continue to provide options for internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and EV vehicles to cater to different customer preferences.

In conclusion, Muñoz underscored Hyundai’s commitment to meeting consumer interests and providing flexibility in their product offerings. While EVs are gaining popularity, Muñoz recognized that it is essential for Hyundai to cater to a diverse range of customer preferences while continuing to innovate in the automotive industry.
