Dolby Laboratories Releases Album Tribute to World’s Endangered Sonic Wonders

In honor of World Climate Day, Dolby Laboratories has released the first album that pays tribute to the world’s seven most endangered sonic wonders. Composer Nainita Desai, known for her award-winning work, collaborated with wildlife sounds technician Chris Watson to create this unique album.

The seven sonic wonders featured in this album include the Vatnajokull glacier in Iceland, the dawn chorus of Lake Suvasvesi in Finland, the smiling hippopotamus in Kenya, the frog beats in Gamboa in Panama, the murmur of starlings in the United Kingdom, the whispers of a coral reef in the Sulu Sea, and the song of a humpback whale in the Caribbean Sea.

Dolby followed strict criteria when choosing these natural sounds. They looked for epic natural beauty, diversity and distribution, ecological importance, historical heritage, geographical location, and embodiment of mystery. The resulting album aims to connect listeners to Mother Nature on a deeper level.

The album was mixed by Kurt Martinez with the intention of creating an immersive experience for listeners. Dolby Atmos technology helps transport listeners to these natural wonders and highlights their importance. Additionally, royalties from this album will go to EarthPercent charity, which offers a way for the music industry to support organizations that have a significant impact on fighting climate change.

Nainita Desai expressed her excitement about working with Dolby on this project: “I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and hear some of nature’s best sounds. We often overlook how important these sounds are compared to sights we see.” Chris Watson added that he hopes that these tracks will transport listeners to the heart of these natural wonders and inspire them to protect them.”
