Clariant and Lummus Awarded Catalyst Technology Contract for Huizhou Dehydrogenation Plant

Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. has selected Clariant and Lummus Technology to provide their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The CATOFIN technology, which is licensed by Lummus Technology, will be used for the first time at one of Huizhou Boeko’s sites. The project will include the technology license and basic engineering, with the completion of the plant expected to produce 550,000 million tpy of net isobutylene. This feedstock will be used in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, expressed excitement about delivering their CATOFIN catalyst to this new plant and anticipated a successful partnership. The CATOFIN process offers reliability, productivity, and increased profitability for the plant due to its highly efficient use of fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature for maximum catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane. This results in high yields of isobutylene at low investment and operating costs.
