Local Track and Field Teams Competing for State Championships this Weekend

Aiken High School: Continued Dominance in SC High School Track and Field

The high school track and field season is in full swing, with the South Carolina High School League state championship meets set to take place this weekend in Columbia. Aiken High has been a dominant force in recent years, winning nine consecutive region titles for the girls team and five straight for the boys team. At the Upper State qualifier, Aiken High impressed once again, earning a spot at the state championships alongside Region 4-AAAA schools Midland Valley, North Augusta, and South Aiken. Collectively, these four schools will have a total of 28 entrants in the state championship meet.

One athlete to watch from Aiken High is Eliza King, who is seeking to become a four-time state champion in the javelin throw. King recently claimed the Upper State title and set a new state record last year. She will also be competing in the long jump at the state championships. Other standout athletes from Aiken High include Sandi King, Scotlynn Staley, and Malasia Jamison, who have all qualified for various events.

On the boys’ side of things, Carson Colmer and Cam’ron Frazier from Aiken High will be competing at the state championships along with Adam Fundak and a 4×800 relay team. Midland Valley boasts an impressive roster of entrants, including Torion Whiteisde and Morgan Coverson-Springs as athletes of the year. Both Coverson-Springs and Whiteisde are Upper State champions in multiple events. Other competitors from Midland Valley include Dominic Morgan, Kamari Curtis, and Diosleydis Gutierrez.
